The Tag

I’ve been tagged by Donni and because I was very slow posting my response Jussi tagged me too! Thanks Jussi, I'm looking forward to meeting you on Saturday at Stitch 'n Bitch. I don’t know what I think about these tags. They seem to me to be a bit like chain letters or the emails that say ‘please forward to ten people you know’ (or you will have 7 years bad luck!) However I did like reading about what people were doing five and ten years ago so I will give that part of the tag a go.

It is strange that I was tagged with this particular set of questions this week, as all the dates mentioned are very significant times in my life. Pull up a comfy chair, make yourself a cup of tea, read on if you like and I’ll tell you a love story….

Ten Years Ago
I was beside myself with worry because one of my very closest friends who I had known for a number of years through university was in intensive care after suffering terrible burns in a very bad car accident. It was touch and go, he might not make it and if he did it would be a long slow road to recovery. This happened ten years ago on Friday. During the months that followed I visited the hospital a lot as he slowly got better. When he left hospital, still recovering and went home to live with his parents in Wollongong, I would drive down from Sydney (an hour and a half away) and visit whenever I could. Unbeknownst to me, his four sisters and his mother used to say to him. “That Sharon is a nice girl. What do you think of her?”

Five Years Ago
I was flown to Canberra from Perth (5hrs) by my new boyfriend to spend the weekend. Of course my ‘new boyfriend’ was JT, my close friend from 10 years ago. We had stayed in touch despite his accident, recovery and me moving to Western Australia. He had visited me over there a few times and phoned me often. I realized after constant teasing from friends that really, perhaps we were more than ‘good friends’. An opportunity to test this idea arose when I traveled back too NSW for an engagement party. My experiment was a success and we were an item from that weekend on. Then in Canberra barely two months later I decided that I would rent out my unit that I had just bought and move back to Sydney to be with him.

One year ago
We were about three weeks away from having our second baby, a girl; Gemma. She was born on the 12th of August, the day after my birthday. In the previous four years we had bought a house together, got married, had a baby girl Milly moved Sydney to Wollongong and had our second daughter Gemma 18 months later. Of course my husband was none other than my ‘close friend’ JT who was in such a bad way 10 years ago!

Yesterday
JT, his family and I went out for dinner at Restaurant Balzac in Sydney to celebrate the ten year anniversary of John’s accident. Actually the celebration was about all the wonderful things that have happened since and how now it seems such a distant memory. We all have so many other great things filling our lives and John, apart from some scarring has triumphed! He left a promising career in chemical engineering to study Medicine and now works as a doctor. I have left a promising career in arts administration to become a mum and wannabe knitting legend, which I love!!

Today
We went out for brekky with an old friend who is getting married soon for the second time, to meet her new fiancé. That was great! So wonderful to see then both so happy. Then went to a yarn store in Sydney, Tapestry Craft and my sister in law bought me some Noro Silk Garden and some Jo Sharp Silkroad Soft Tweed which I LOOOVE!!

Tomorrow
The week begins again, filled with anticipation of playgroups, my girls playing together, my secret pal pressie arriving, my meeting on Tuesday towards my knitting related new business that I am working on, my every second Tuesday spinning group meeting and Stitch ‘n Bitch on Saturday!! Who could ask for more??!!

The tag also included more questions which are listed below. I’m not going to answer them because It will take me all year to decide. Narrowing things down to 5 just turns my brain to mush.

5 Things I would do with $100,000,000
5 locations I'd like to run away to

People I want to tag (and they can answer all the questions if they like) are:

Annie

Girl Printer because she is new to the ANZ webring and knitting the versatile vest wrap from rare yarns too

Sharon because she commented on my blog, she's famous on ABC Launceston and she’s another Aussie & NZ knitblogger and I’d like to find out more about her.
